The Ruby Slipper: A Religious Experience

You guys I am just so sorry that I haven't been around lately. What's it been? 2 weeks? I understand if you feel that it's time to move on but I'd love for you to stick around.

So you remember way back when, I said I would share with you every little detail about the best brunch ever? Well I'm finally making good on that promise. Prepare yourself. Grab a cup of coffee, cleanse your pallet, close your eyes and get ready to embark on a religious experience of good ole southern deliciousness.

Setting: The Ruby Slipper, Magazine Street. The weather is unseasonably beautiful (we say unseasonably because this is Louisiana after all, there really aren't any seasons to begin with).

You step into the restaurant and this tiny woman puts your name down on a 45 minute wait list. You don't contest because you spent way to much time the night before researching brunch opportunities, you know that the hype will be worth it. The woman by the way is the chicest lady you've ever seen. She seems to pull off this choppy haircut that's not quite pixie not quite bob while tying her whole look together with a casual black dress and a red lip that matches the very ruby slippers on the restaurants sign.

Flash forward.

The wait is finally over. You're two cups of coffee in and finally, around the corner, your meal appears. While you came to the restaurant wanting eggs and bacon you quickly realized that shrimp and grits are the only way to go if you want the true New Orleans experience.

The meal comes with a biscuit the size of your head! It is best enjoyed dipped in the heavenly goodness of the shrimp and grits. The grits blow anything you've tried to make at home out of the water. They are so creamy; you'll probably have to take a moment to truly apprecisate it. The shrimps are huge and juicy and marinated by the tang of the glaze and the slight sweet essence of the grits. Shrimp might not even be in season, but that doesn't matter in New Orleans, they've got magic. Oddly enough the coffee you're still drinking compliments the meal perfectly, and an hour later you're left with an empty plate, a happy belly, and the most peaceful feeling (a common side effect of a fabulous brunch life).

Moral of the story: Go check this place out! I promise you it's worth the wait, and heck if you can get Mother Nature to be on your side for the weekend, then the weather will be beautiful. Good luck fello traveller, make sure to have extra grits for me.
